Back in 2014, India’s ethanol blending rate stood at only 1.53%. That’s remarkably low when you think about it. Through policy reforms and agricultural incentives, the country accelerated adoption. It eventually achieved its 20% blending target ahead of schedule.
Energy security remains the driving force behind this effort. India spends roughly $120 billion every year on fossil fuel imports. That’s an enormous amount of money. Every percentage point of domestic ethanol usage helps reduce dependence on imported crude oil.
