Eden Gardens Silenced: SRH’s 226-Run Blitz Leaves Kolkata Searching for Answers

KOLKATA – If you walked into Eden Gardens yesterday expecting a close contest, then it is likely that you did not stay until the end. The Sunrisers Hyderabad did not merely beat the Kolkata Knight Riders on 2nd April 2026; they smashed them. It was a 65-run drubbing, and it felt far worse than that scorecard suggests. SRH scored 226/8, and honestly, KKR never seemed to be in the same league during the chase.

It all started with a toss that Ajinkya Rahane probably regrets winning now. He put Hyderabad in, and Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma treated the powerplay like a video game on “easy” mode. They put on 82 runs in basically five and a half minutes. Head was swinging at everything, ending with a 21-ball 46, while Sharma fell just shy of a fifty. Look, when your openers are striking at over 200, the bowling side usually just starts looking at the floor. KKR’s bowlers certainly were.

The only consolation for the home supporters was Blessing Muzarabani. He took 4 wickets, but he was essentially the only bowler performing well. He was taking poles; everyone else was getting tonked. In came Heinrich Klaasen, who did what Klassen does best to wallop 52 runs off 35 balls. Young Nitish Kumar Reddy then added 39 runs. The energy in the stadium had completely evaporated by the time that innings ended at 226.

In any event, KKR’s answer fell flat. Finn Allen set the place alight, belting 28 of merely 7 balls. It was fun for approximately two minutes. But the moment he got out, it wasn’t just wheels that came off — the entire car blew up. The surprise star here was Jaydev Unadkat. He used his slower balls and cutters to perfection and finished with 3/21. He has been here forever, but on nights like these, his experience is worth its weight in gold.

KKR were eventually all out for 161 in the 16th over. Angkrish Raghuvanshi tried his utmost to turn it into a contest with 52, but he was batting on a different pitch from the rest of the team. The IPL official highlights are a catalogue of mistimed shots and not much composure under pressure.

A commendable all-round effort earned Nitish Kumar Reddy the Player of the Match award. So where does this leave KKR? They have much soul-searching to do before their next outing. As for SRH, they’re not just contenders if they bat like this; they are the team to beat.

The question is, can they do it on a less speedy track? We’ll see. But for now, Hyderabad fans can breathe easy. That was a statement.
